Safety in the Community.

We all venture out into the community every day, whether it’s for school or work, to play in the park, go shopping, or just out visiting friends and family.

These are normal activities for parents with typically developing children and are activities that those parents wouldn’t think twice about doing. But for a parent with an autistic child, any one of these activities can be difficult and stressful.

For a child on the spectrum, these activities take some planning and, sometimes, precaution. Safety throughout the community is challenging with a child on the spectrum, because you are no longer in the comfort and security of your own home.

As a parent, there are ways you can keep your child safe, prevent an accident, and still enjoy your outing.  Here are some resources for you that I hope will help.
