9-1-1 Registry - Think Safety
Another free service for parents to use is the 9-1-1 registry. This is an excellent way to ensure if there is ever an emergency in your home and 9-1-1 is called, that the police or fire departments know that there is an autistic child in the home. Most children on the spectrum like to hide in small dark areas; if the emergency rescue team knows there is an autistic child at the home, they will know there is the possibility of a hiding child could still be in the home in such cases as a fire. The other reason to have your child listed on the 911 registry is for wandering reasons. If your child is the type that bolts, and an emergency team finds him, they will know to ensure the child is not left unattended.
